Million-Hour Prayer for Hong Kong - Celebration Ceremony

"For our Lord God Almighty reigns!" (Rev. 19:6)

"For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." (Mt. 6:13)

Thanks and praise be to the Lord. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. He is the Head who leads the million-hour prayer movement for Hong Kong.

The celebration ceremony was successfully held. We were truly thankful to God for raising up brothers and sisters to lend us their help. Before Jireh Fund invited the Chief Executive, he expressed hesitation because he was unfamiliar with our organization and thought we were not representative of the Christian circle.

Dr. Philemon Choi, honorary General Secretary of Breakthrough, invited 12 pastoral leaders to jointly sign an invitation to invite the Chief Executive. As a result, the Chief Executive agreed to attend the meeting. We would also like to thank Dr. Rosanna Yick-ming Wong and other brothers and sisters who invited prominent figures from the political and business sectors, as well as government officials to attend the meeting that evening. Everyone testified that our Lord God Almighty reigns. Praise the Lord!

The master of ceremonies for the conference began by proclaiming "for our Lord God Almighty reigns!" (Rev. 19:6) and "for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." (Mt. 6:13). The marching band from S.K.H. Kei Hau Secondary School performed "Majesty" and the congregation responded with praise. A 100-person choir proclaimed the name of God, sang worship songs and read the Scripture. The chairman of the board of directors of Hong Kong Campus Crusade for Christ led a prayer for the meeting that evening. A thanksgiving prayer was offered for the Chief Executive, and the congregation was asked to spend several minutes in silent prayer as they waited upon the Chief Executive to arrive at the meeting hall.

At about 7:40pm, our Chief Executive Mr. Tung Chee-hua arrived at the hall accompanied by Mr. Stephen Sui-lung Lam (Information Co-ordinator), security personnel, Dr. Rosanna Yick-ming Wong, Mrs. Fan Chan (General Secretary of Jireh Fund) and the Chairman of Hong Kong Campus Crusade for Christ. The Chief Executive was welcomed at the entrance by the 12 pastoral leaders who earlier jointly signed an invitation letter. The brothers from the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (Hong Kong) were in charge of security and accompanied the Chief Executive when he made his way into the hall. The entire congregation stood up and sang a song to welcome the Chief Executive. As he entered the meeting hall, he shook hands with the congregation seated on both sides of the aisle and the meeting reached its climax.

The Chief Executive stayed for about half an hour. First, the choir again proclaimed the name of God with songs and Scripture. Next, Dr. Rosanna Yick-ming Wong, an Executive Council member, was invited to pray for Hong Kong while the Chief Executive also joined in with his eyes closed. Next, we showed a five-minute video which introduced the vision and the development of the million-hour prayer. In particular, it shared how God moved our intercessors to pray for the monetary system, development of hi-tech industry, employment situation and the establishment of the Disney theme park. Next, Dr. Philemon Choi shared his response to the million-hour prayer movement, and he pointed out that the Scripture taught us the following: "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (1 Ti. 2:1-2)

Dr. Choi asked God to bestow blessings on the Chief Executive and grant him the wisdom to govern. Finally Dr. Choi invited the Chief Executive to come on stage to receive a souvenir which was presented by Mrs. Fan Chan, General Secretary of Jireh Fund. The souvenir was a special edition of the "Million-Hour Prayer for Hong Kong" prayer handbook (1st, 2nd and 3rd handbook). When Mr. Tung came on stage to speak, he said, "Good evening everyone... I am deeply moved..." At the same time, the congregation reciprocated with applause. Next, he continued, "This evening I am glad to take part in the ceremony regarding the million-hour prayer for Hong Kong. I would like to thank all the brothers and sisters who are seated here and those who have taken part in this. Thank you for the love you have shown for Hong Kong. It is my hope that through this prayer movement we can make a concerted effort in building a society which will be filled with peace, harmony and love. Thank you everyone!" After his speech, the Chief Executive left the meeting hall accompanied by other government officials.

After the Chief Executive left, Mr. Thomas Fok and the Worshipers praise band led the congregation in singspiration as an offering of thanksgiving to the Lord. Another highlight of the ceremony was when Rev. Thomas Wang from the Great Commission Center International was invited to speak. He pointed out that different countries have organized their own prayer movements. Although the million-hour prayer movement was just completed in Hong Kong, this movement had not yet reached its end. On the contrary, this was only the beginning of a revival. He encouraged churches in Hong Kong to model after the "prayer lighthouse" movement in the U.S. The movement could be carried out in different districts in Hong Kong. Churches within the district would arrange brothers and sisters to pray for the non-believers by their names. These non-believers also resided in the same districts. Our goal was to pray for every non-believer in Hong Kong.

Another highlight that followed was "Praying in Unity". This began with the General Secretary of Jireh Fund who led the congregation to pray for the Chief Executive. Next, Rev. Thomas Wang prayed for the pastors. Another prayer was made for all the believers to live out the word of God in their lives. Dr. Philemon Choi prayed for the youth with special need for attention. The General Secretary prayed for the people who were marginalized. Mr. Lam (recovered from mental disability) represented the marginalized and received prayers of blessings from the congregation. Finally, the General Secretary prayed for the individual and family needs.

After the section on "Praying in Unity" ended, the General Secretary urged the congregation to respond with offering that supported the development of the prayer ministry. Jireh Fund had published eight prayer handbooks and a collection of testimonies from answered prayers. The General Secretary urged the congregation to support the publication of the prayer handbooks with $10 as donation for the price of a prayer handbook so that the prayer ministry could be further expanded. The congregation responded with great enthusiasm. Toward the end of the ceremony, on behalf of Jireh Fund and the Hong Kong Campus Crusade for Christ, the master of ceremonies expressed sincere thanks to the pastoral leaders, leaders from the political and business sectors, and government officials who have participated and offered assistance in organizing the ceremony. Finally we invited the chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union to lead benediction for the congregation. The marching band from the S.K.H. Kei Hau Secondary School performed a hymn entitled "Praise to the Heavenly Father", bringing the meeting to a close.

It is noteworthy to state that out of the 1,000 response forms received at the meeting, about 80% of the congregation indicated that they were very moved. Quite a number of people indicated that their view changed favorably toward the Chief Executive. None of the response forms attempted to highlight any of the guests on the stage. Only the work of God was stressed! The message concerning "our Lord God Almighty reigns!" was brought forth. May all glory and praise be to our God!
