Wonderful Strategies in the Development of Hong Kong
Prayer Meeting for the Industrial and Commercial Sectors

At 7:30pm on 14 October 2001, a prayer meeting called "Wonderful Strategies in the Development of Hong Kong" was held. We would like to specially thank the Christian businessmen who willingly lent us to use the 75th floor of the Central Plaza. Over 100 brothers and sisters attended the prayer meeting. The speaker was Rev. Peter Ho who shared how God raised up "Joseph" who was not only good at management but had a close relationship with God. He had the courage to speak the word of God to those in authority who would resolve the difficulties. "Joseph" can refer to an individual or a group of individuals.

Second, Rev. Ho shared a testimony of a Christian advertising company. In the midst of economic hardships, the company continued to seek God in prayer and eventually produced a very brilliant advertisement. From tender to story plot; and from role selection to filming location, every decision was lifted to God in prayer, thus revealing the fact that God can do amazing work in both the industrial and commercial sectors. God has said, "call upon me in the day of trouble; and I will deliver you, and you will honor me". (Ps. 50:15). Irrespective of the surrounding circumstances, we should stand firm in the Lord. Difficulties often provide us with more opportunities to experience the Lord's grace, just as the selling of Joseph to Egypt had later become a blessing of salvation to the Israelites.

Mrs. Chan, General Secretary of Jireh Fund, led the prayer session:

  1. May God raise up "Joseph". May their words move the hearts of those in authority. A few years ago, when Mrs. Chan prayed for a government official who was a Christian, God moved her to ask Him to raise up "Daniel". We give thanks to the Holy Spirit for His amazing revelation and guidance.
  2. The verse preceding "...call upon me in the day of trouble..." is "sacrifice thank offerings to God..." (Ps. 50:14) Over the past years when Hong Kong experienced days of prosperity, the people of Hong Kong did not know about giving thanks to God. On the contrary, they boasted their own strength. We therefore need to confess the sins of failing to give thanks to God. May the Lord help us to seek Him more earnestly in the days of disaster.
  3. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved". (Joel 2:32) Rev. Tony Lo shared about an e-mail he received that contained a testimony about a near escape when a Christian made his way out from the World Trade Center attacks. The individual earnestly called out aloud Jesus' name in the midst of crises and was saved in the end. May the Christians in Hong Kong possess a heart that earnestly calls upon the name of the Lord.
  4. Brothers and sisters prayed for their own professions. May the Lord raise up individuals to keep watch, pray and intercede.
  5. May the Lord bless the Chief Executive and enable brothers and sisters to know how to bless the Chief Executive with blessings to replace curses. May he possess wisdom in leading Hong Kong. In the prayer handbook published in March 1999,"may God turn the crises of Hong Kong into opportunities, with the economy able to restructure…" (page 60) Not long ago the Chief Executive said Hong Kong needed to undergo "economic restructuring and develop tourism". Not only did God move the hearts of the intercessors to pray according to His will, He was also sovereign over the hearts of those in authority.
