Since October 1998, God has moved about 3,000 intercessors, 26 churches, schools and organizations to participate in the "Million-Hour Prayer Movement for Hong Kong". This prayer movement was completed on 6 October 2000. A celebration ceremony called "Our Lord God Almighty Reigns" was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. During this ceremony, God moved Mr. Tung Chee-hua, our Chief Executive at the time to be our special guest of honor. His attendance was a great encouragement to the intercessors.
The Beginning of an Even Greater Prayer Movement
After the ceremony, we prayed earnestly for the Lord to grant us a new vision and to guide us. May the fire of prayer continue to burn until every Christian in the world experience its effect. During this ceremony Rev. Thomas Wang believed that the launching of a prayer campaign by using prayer handbooks is a new attempt. He also believed that using prayer handbooks was a very powerful way in transmitting prayers as it enabled many people to participate. Not only can such a prayer campaign be launched in Hong Kong, but it can also be launched and joined by other believers in other countries. After hearing Rev. Wang's message, we began to pray more earnestly in our hearts.
Thank you God. In the early morning of 24 October 2000, the Holy Spirit gave me a revelation. "Then this city will bring me (Lord - our God) renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it." (Jer. 33:9a). The fire of prayer will continue to kindle and the prayer campaign will shorten its time of completion as time passes. For instance, the first million-hour prayer took two years to complete. The second million-hour prayer took 20 months, the third took 18 months, then 16 months, 14 months… until a million hours of prayer can be completed in a minute. Then, a powerful and strong international prayer network will be completed. In the days to come, besides half an hour of prayer daily, we can use purified lips to call on the Lord with one heart in different countries – giving exaltations and prayer to our God, and to proclaim the kingdom of God and His salvation to come upon the world and into the nations. Thank you Lord!
This is an unimaginable thing, yet it has brought great joy to our hearts. We are thankful that a small city such as Hong Kong has been chosen by the Lord Jesus to take up this commission. This "city" refers to Hong Kong, not any church or organization. We greatly desire the support from pastors and leaders of all the churches and organizations in Hong Kong in order to enter into this unity. Then we can pass this vision to the whole world. The completion of one million hours of prayer within a minute is entirely possible. Prayer will become the breath of every Christian. Also, in addition to individual prayer time, Christians all over the world will proclaim God's name in unity during an appointed time. They will also pray that the Lord will reign as king throughout the world for eternity. Amen.
Name of the Worldwide Prayer Movement
The basic plan for this prayer campaign has already been laid out though it still needed a name. We believe that the Lord will give us clear instructions. We prayed unceasingly for the Lord to reveal the name for this campaign. On 6 November 2000, as I was praying with Mr. Thomas Fok of the Hong Kong Campus Crusade for Christ over the phone, I heard the Holy Spirit said in my heart: "Do This". I suddenly came to realize that it was not that the Holy Spirit was saying we have done the right thing, but what He said was the name for this campaign. In fact during a prayer meeting two nights ago, we have already been given the verse from 1 Corinthians 11:24 - "Do this in remembrance of me." We thought that the Lord Jesus said we did the right thing, but this was the name for the prayer campaign. We thanked the Lord for confirming the name of the campaign. Therefore, we decided to name this prayer campaign as: "Do This" Million-Hour All Nations Prayer Movement.
Emphasis on Prayer and Ministry of the Word
"He who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it – the Lord is his name: Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." (Jer. 33:2-3). On the early morning of 24 October 2000, the Holy Spirit gave me this same verse. "This is what the Lord says, 'call to me and I will answer you.' " This was very moving as I saw how God invited mankind to pray to Him. In the days to come, besides launching prayer movements, we hope to bring forth the message - "Men can pray to God", and this grace has come upon mankind. Our Lord is truly living in our midst! The Savior has come upon mankind! Dear brothers and sisters, let us consider this unique moment. God has revealed His will and accomplished it through the prayers of His people. His power has been shown and testified to His truthfulness. Through the "Do This" Million-Hour All Nations Prayer Movement, not only is the heart of prayer kindled, but our praises will make His name glorious.
At that time the hearts of everyone will be kindled by the Spirit of God, and become zealous for the name of the Lord, going from place to place and spreading the good news about Jesus. One will say, "I belong to Jesus!" Another will say, "I believe in Jesus!" At that time the gospel of the kingdom of God will be spread to all places, from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets; mankind will give exaltations to the Almighty God and Father in the name of Jesus, and pray: "Our Lord God Almighty Reigns" Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
