The meeting began at 7:30pm with a welcoming speech. Jesus became a bridge between men and God so that men could pray to Him. It is hoped that everyone here could become the citizen of God, pray to God, and pray for the various needs for Hong Kong and the entire world. A pastor came on stage and led an opening prayer.
The program was tightly schedule and rich in content. Over 300 brothers and sisters from various churches worshiped God with praise dance. This was followed by entry of the banner teams representing 61 churches, organizations, and groups. The audience sang in unison. This was followed by a program where the word of the Lord was proclaimed. The drama team performed several real life scenarios to demonstrate the importance of the word of God during times of crises. The audience proclaimed "Amen" and formed a giant cross in response. Next, a short video was shown in which Mrs. Chan, executive chairperson of the committee, shared the vision of the All Nations Prayer Net. She shared how God has taught the believers in Hong Kong about prayer during the last decade. These believers prayed and interceded for the different crises and showed that God was real. Many different prayer handbooks were published and enabled believers to pray for different aspects. Mrs. Chan hoped that every believer would become a prayer warrior for Hong Kong. Next, pastors and ministers from 17 regions or countries where the All Nations Prayer Net was spread came on stage with their hands holding their national flags, and one by one they spoke "May God bestow peace upon nations and peoples" in their own language. Afterwards, Mrs. Chan encouraged the audience to respond by not only joining the prayer net, but also to become a seed member, by inviting five more brothers and sisters to join. She also encouraged the participants to take part in the offering so it can be used to support the expenses incurred in the entire event. A hymn was sung during the offertory.
The committee was honored to invite Rev. Gordon Sau-wah Siu to share a message. Rev. Siu shared how God enabled people to see that money is fragile as the Bible has taught, whether it was the financial crises from a decade ago or the current crises. He also shared how God caused believers to examine whether their own faith rests on monetary gains. Revelations 3:17-18 states the following: "I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked." God said, "I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich... " This does not refer to material abundance. The Bible said that our faith is refined and more precious than the gold which is prone to decay even after being refined in the fire. During times of financial difficulties, God desired to nurture those who are abundant in faith. Rev. Siu shared from Colossians 4:2, "Devote yourselves in prayer, being watchful and thankful." First, a prayerful heart of fervency and perseverance should be kept regardless of the challenges and hardships that one faces. The Bible also particularly reminds us to "make the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil." (Eph. 5:16). Second, we need to be vigilant in prayer. If not, we will easily fall into deception. Revelation 12:9 describes the devil as one that "leads the whole world astray." Some people thought that the safest way is to own all the wealth in the world, and they do not come to their senses until they lose their wealth; there are also those who are believers for many years but they still fall into deception; and there are the proud who fall into temptation without realizing themselves. The third is to be thankful. When an individual forgets to be thankful, he thinks he deserves everything he owns. He may also become proud when he believes that his ability has enabled him to accomplish the task.
The Committee was very honored by the presence of Mr. Yan-lung Wong, Secretary for Justice; Mr. Stephen Sui-lung Lam, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, and Mr Edward Tang-wah Yau, Secretary for the Environment. With the accompaniment of Dr. Philemon Choi, they came on stage to share and lead the audience in prayer. Mr. Wong explained that he was unable to attend the meeting at first because of other important matters; however, at the encouragement of his wife and prayer, he was able to complete the tasks in time and attended the meeting at night. Mr. Wong was particularly burdened to pray for the youths who are addicted to drugs. He hoped that everyone can work together to establish a caring society in order to lend a helping hand to these young fellows.
Amid the financial crises, Mr. Stephen Sui-lung Lam felt that life is what the Bible says about: "life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." (Lk. 12:15b). We should not lay our treasures on earth but in heaven. You heart will be where your treasure is. We need to take every available opportunity to share the gospel. Our focus should be on the two gospel rallies on November 29th. Let us store treasures in heaven.
Mr Edward Tang-wah Yau shared about the incident when the Lord Jesus was betrayed. He humbly washed His disciples' feet and commanded them to do the same with one another. Those in authority should serve with humility and spread the love of God. He also particularly thanked the brothers and sisters who prayed for the civil servants. May the Lord grant them wisdom and strength to handle the daily challenges they are faced with.
Various pastors came on stage and prayed for different matters relating to the economy, civil life, and family functioning. As the meeting came to an end, the audience responded with a hymn. The meeting ended with a benediction. The postlude concluded the meeting.
